Versacon Receives Award of Excellence From The Minnesota Construction Association

Each year, the MCA looks back at the exceptional work of its members and recognize those who have excelled at their craft in the categories of Large and Small Scale Projects, Historic/Tenant Improvement, Green/Sustainable, and Research.

Versacon has won the 2017 Award of Excellence from the Minnesota Construction Association (MCA) for its Historic Clock Tower renovation project located at the City Hall in Minneapolis.

For more than 110 years, the Municipal Building Clock Tower is both a city-designated landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its four clock faces are approximately 24 feet in diameter each. This makes it the largest four-faced chiming clock in the world.

The $2.1 million dollar clock restoration project at the Municipal Building in Minneapolis involved the disassembly and partial salvage of the existing clock face structures on all four (4) sides followed by the rehabilitation of all four (4) clock faces. The scope of work on the clock faces included the replacement of the iron clock face framing structures and porcelain-enameled metal clock face panels with cast aluminum framing structures and glass panels as well as the removal of the neon illumination system. The project also included the installation of an interior lighting system and masonry restoration adjacent to the clock faces.
